Crystal Palace midfielder David Ozoh has emerged as one of the most sought-after young talents in the transfer market, with Bundesliga side 1. FC Köln are joining Olympique Marseille, Hull City, and Derby County in the race to sign the Nigeria-eligible midfielder.
The 21-year-old defensive midfielder is attracting strong interest after an impressive loan spell with Derby County, where he established himself as one of the Championship club’s standout performers during the 2025/26 season.
According to reports, Köln have identified Ozoh as a priority midfield target and are considering a deal worth around €5.8 million. With the midfielder still under contract at Crystal Palace until the summer of 2027, the Premier League club remains in a strong negotiating position.
Born in Valencia, Spain, to Nigerian parents before growing up in England, Ozoh came through Crystal Palace’s academy and made history in 2023 by becoming the club’s youngest-ever Premier League debutant.
However, opportunities with Palace’s first team have been limited, prompting successive loan spells at Derby County.
The move proved beneficial for both player and club, as Ozoh made 33 Championship appearances last season, scoring two goals while impressing with his composure, physicality, and ability to shield the defence.
His performances have convinced Derby County to pursue a permanent transfer, with the Rams reportedly prepared to offer around £5 million to bring him back to Pride Park.
French giants Olympique Marseille are also closely monitoring the situation, viewing Ozoh as a long-term investment capable of developing into a top-class holding midfielder.
Meanwhile, Hull City have also entered the race as they continue strengthening their squad following promotion to the Premier League.
At international level, Ozoh’s future is equally intriguing.
Although he has represented England at Under-18 level, the midfielder remains eligible to play for Nigeria and has reportedly expressed a willingness to represent the Super Eagles.
Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has made recruiting talented dual-national players a key part of his long-term strategy, and Ozoh is understood to be among the players being monitored as Nigeria continues to strengthen its midfield options.
Standing at 6ft 2in, Ozoh possesses the size, athleticism, and tactical discipline that modern clubs value in a defensive midfielder. His ability to break up opposition attacks while progressing the ball from deep has made him an attractive option for clubs across Europe.
For Crystal Palace, a permanent transfer would provide a healthy return for a player who currently sits outside the club’s first-team plans.
