Bundesliga side Hamburger SV are in advanced negotiations to sign Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi from French club OGC Nice, offering the Nigerian international an opportunity to revive his career after a difficult spell in Ligue 1.
The 27-year-old is reportedly valued at around €8 million, with discussions between both clubs progressing positively as Hamburg look to strengthen their attack ahead of the new Bundesliga season.
HSV sporting director Claus Costa has confirmed that Moffi is among the club’s attacking targets, underlining their interest in securing the services of the experienced Nigerian forward.
A move to Germany would bring an end to a turbulent chapter in Moffi’s career at Nice, where his relationship with the club deteriorated significantly over the past year.
The striker found himself at the centre of a disturbing incident in November 2025, when angry Nice ultras confronted the team following a 3-1 home defeat to Lorient. According to reports, Moffi and teammate Jérémie Boga were insulted, spat on, and physically confronted after supporters blocked the team bus outside the club’s training ground.
The incident prompted both players and the club to file legal complaints, with prosecutors later describing the confrontation as an “ambush.
Following the unrest, Moffi joined Portuguese giants FC Porto on loan during the January 2026 transfer window.
The Nigerian enjoyed a respectable spell in Portugal, contributing two goals and two assists in 15 appearances while helping Porto secure the league title. However, the Portuguese champions ultimately decided not to activate their reported €8 million purchase option, sending the striker back to Nice.
His return did little to improve his situation.
Nice have reportedly informed Moffi that he is no longer part of the club’s plans, excluding him from first-team training and pre-season preparations while making it clear that he will not feature for the club again.
With just one year remaining on his contract, which expires in June 2027, the French side are keen to complete a permanent transfer before the close of the summer window.
Moffi initially joined Nice from Lorient in 2023 in a deal worth around €22.5 million, following a successful loan spell.
Across his Ligue 1 career with Lorient and Nice, the Nigerian has scored 54 goals in 148 appearances, establishing himself as one of the league’s most reliable centre-forwards before a serious knee ligament injury during the 2024/25 season disrupted his momentum.
Hamburg views the current situation as an opportunity to acquire a proven goalscorer at a significantly reduced price.
Known for his pace, physical strength, movement, and finishing ability, Moffi fits the profile of a striker HSV are seeking as they prepare for life back in the Bundesliga.
While negotiations are ongoing and no formal agreement has yet been reached, the proposed move offers the Super Eagles striker a clear path away from an increasingly untenable situation in France.
A successful switch to Hamburg would provide Moffi with the fresh start he needs to rediscover his best form and strengthen his case for a regular place in Nigeria’s squad ahead of upcoming international competitions.
