Newly promoted Bundesliga side SV Elversberg have intensified their efforts to sign Nigerian midfielder Anthony Dennis from Turkish club Göztepe as they continue strengthening their squad ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The 22-year-old defensive midfielder has emerged as one of Elversberg’s priority transfer targets following the club’s promotion to the German top flight after finishing second in the 2. Bundesliga last season.
The Bundesliga newcomers are keen to add quality and experience to their midfield as they prepare for their first-ever campaign in Germany’s top division.
Dennis’ future has been the subject of growing transfer speculation throughout the summer after a proposed move to newly promoted Premier League side Coventry City collapsed during the final stages of negotiations.
The transfer reportedly fell through due to disagreements over the transfer fee, with Göztepe standing firm on their valuation of the Nigerian midfielder.
The Turkish club are understood to value Dennis at around €9 million, a figure that has been considered excessive by some interested clubs given the relatively short period he has spent as a first-team regular.
Despite that, Göztepe remain open to selling the player before the transfer window closes.
In a clear indication that a move could be imminent, head coach Stanimir Stoilov has deliberately left Dennis out of the club’s pre-season matches to avoid any injury that could jeopardize a potential transfer.
Dennis joined Göztepe from Nigeria during the 2022/23 January transfer window, initially featuring for the club’s youth side before steadily establishing himself as an important member of the senior squad.
Since breaking into the first team, he has made 83 appearances, scoring four goals and providing five assists, while earning a reputation as one of the Turkish club’s most consistent midfield performers.
His impressive development also saw him receive a place in Nigeria’s provisional squad for the Africa Cup of Nations, highlighting his growing status among the country’s emerging talents.
Known for his energy, ball-winning ability, tactical discipline, and relentless pressing, Dennis has attracted interest from clubs across Europe, including teams in Germany, England, Belgium, and Turkey.
For SV Elversberg, securing the Nigerian would represent a significant statement of intent as they prepare for the challenge of Bundesliga football.
For Dennis, a move to Germany would provide his first opportunity to compete in one of Europe’s top five leagues and could significantly enhance his chances of earning a maiden competitive appearance for the Super Eagles.
Negotiations between the two clubs are continuing, with Elversberg pushing to reach an agreement before the close of the summer transfer window. If completed, the move would mark another important milestone in the midfielder’s steadily rising career.
