The Olukoya Boys’ handler has opened up on why the youngster did not make his league debut,  head coach, Fidelis Ilechukwu reveals why he opted against handing Elijah Akanni his first Nigerian Professional Football League game against Enugu Rangers.
Ilechukwu mentioned a few hours before the 2-1 victory over the topflight champions that Akanni, 16, will make his league debut. Although the youngster was included in the matchday squad, he was left on the bench for the entire duration of the encounter.

Elijah Akanni
“Elijah Akanni is a fantastic player who I planned to use during the match against Rangers but I had said that his introduction will strongly depend on the flow of the match,” Ilechukwu told Goal.
“He is no doubt a very talented player and he will surely get his debut soon since we still have a lot of matches to play.

“The three points is the most important factor in the league and he will contribute in real match situation soon.
“But in all, I am glad that we defeated Rangers. They are the reigning champions, they are tough and we also showed them what we are capable of doing.”
