Manchester United have reaffirmed their commitment to youth development by retaining four Nigeria-eligible prospects ahead of the 2026-27 season, as the club released its retained and released list before the Premier League’s official announcement.
Among the young players set to continue their journeys at Old Trafford are forwards Victor Musa and Chido Obi, defender Habeeb Ogunneye, and highly rated Germany youth international Noah Ajayi.
Musa enjoyed a productive campaign with Manchester United’s U21 side, contributing four goals and four assists in 18 appearances across multiple competitions, including the Premier League 2, National League Cup, Premier League International Cup and EFL Trophy.
His performances further underlined his growing reputation within the club’s academy system.
Fellow striker Chido Obi also impressed during the season, emerging as one of the standout performers for the U21s.
The former Arsenal academy prospect scored nine goals in 18 Premier League 2 matches, with his most memorable display coming in February when he struck all four goals in a commanding 4-1 victory over Leicester City.
Despite his impressive form at youth level, Obi was unable to add to his eight senior appearances for the first team.
Defender Habeeb Ogunneye returns to Old Trafford following a season-long loan spell with League Two outfit Newport County.
The right-back gained valuable first-team experience during his time away and celebrated a significant milestone by scoring his maiden senior goal in August 2025.
Meanwhile, Noah Ajayi remains one of the club’s most exciting young prospects. The Hamburg-born forward, who represents Germany at youth level, is set to begin the second year of his scholarship in July.
Ajayi enjoyed an impressive season across the U18 Premier League, FA Youth Cup, Premier League 2 and Premier League International Cup, scoring nine goals in 25 appearances.
