Nigerian striker Uchenna Ogundu stole the show on Wednesday after scoring a stunning first-half hat-trick in FC Augsburg’s emphatic 15-0 pre-season victory over Austrian third-tier side SC Schwaz.
The 20-year-old forward needed just 37 minutes to complete his treble, helping the Bundesliga club storm into an 8-0 half-time lead during their training camp in Tirol, Austria.
Ogundu opened the scoring in the 5th minute, doubled Augsburg’s advantage with his second goal in the 19th minute, and completed his hat-trick in the 37th minute with another composed finish, producing a clinical display that will undoubtedly strengthen his case for more first-team opportunities ahead of the new season.
The Nigerian’s standout performance came at an important time in his Augsburg career.
Having joined the Bundesliga side from Turkish club Alanyaspor in the January 2026 transfer window on a contract running until 2031, Ogundu has found regular first-team football difficult to come by, making only a handful of substitute appearances in the Bundesliga without finding the back of the net.
With pre-season offering players a chance to impress the coaching staff, the young striker seized his opportunity in style.
Augsburg’s goals came from across the squad as they completely overwhelmed their Austrian opponents.
Michael Gregoritsch added an early goal before Robin Fellhauer struck twice, while Thomas Kastanaras and Noahkai Banks also found the net before the interval.
After wholesale changes at half-time, the Bundesliga outfit maintained their relentless attacking display.
Anton Kade and Marius Wolf both scored braces, while Rodrigo Ribeiro, Hennes Behrens, and Nathanael Mbuku also got on the scoresheet to complete the remarkable 15-goal victory.
Born on May 12, 2006, Ogundu began his football journey at Diamond Football Academy before earning a move to Turkey.
He impressed during spells with Şanlıurfaspor and Alanyaspor, where his pace, movement, and finishing ability earned widespread praise and comparisons with fellow Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen.
The towering forward is regarded as one of Nigeria’s brightest attacking prospects and has reportedly been monitored by national team selectors in recent months.
He has already featured in discussions surrounding future Super Eagles call-ups and is also considered a strong candidate for Nigeria’s U23 squad under head coach Eric Chelle.
A strong pre-season could significantly improve his chances of breaking into Augsburg’s first-team plans while strengthening his credentials for international selection.
Augsburg will continue their preparations for the new Bundesliga campaign with friendlies against Sassuolo and Leeds United before opening their competitive season against Energie Cottbus in the DFB-Pokal on August 22.
For Ogundu, Wednesday’s clinical hat-trick represents an ideal statement ahead of the new campaign as he looks to establish himself in one of Europe’s top leagues and continue his rise toward senior international football.
