Portuguese side Club Sport Marítimo has completed the signing of Nigerian youth international Israel Isaac Ayuma on a season-long loan from Croatian club NK Istra 1961 ahead of the 2026/27 Primeira Liga campaign.
The 20-year-old midfielder will spend the entire season in Madeira as Marítimo prepare for life back in Portugal’s top flight after securing promotion as champions of Liga Portugal 2 last season.
The loan agreement will keep Ayuma at the Estádio do Marítimo until the end of the 2026/27 season, giving the promising Nigerian another opportunity to continue his development in one of Europe’s respected football leagues.
Another Step in European Journey
Born on August 8, 2005, Ayuma began his European adventure in 2023 when he joined the youth setup of Croatian top-flight club NK Istra 1961 at the age of 17.
His impressive performances quickly earned him promotion to the senior team, where he established himself as a reliable option in midfield.
Last season, the 1.85-metre midfielder made 17 appearances in the Croatian HNL and scored his first senior goal, showcasing his ability to contribute at both ends of the pitch.
His steady rise has now been rewarded with a move to Portugal, where he will test himself in the Primeira Liga.
Flying Eagles Star Continues to Rise
Ayuma has also become an important figure for Nigeria’s Flying Eagles.
The midfielder has earned nine caps for the national under-20 team and featured prominently during Nigeria’s campaigns at the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
His performances at the youth international level have established him as one of Nigeria’s brightest midfield prospects, with many expecting him to push for senior national team recognition in the coming years.
Marítimo Confident in New Signing
Marítimo believe Ayuma possesses the qualities needed to strengthen their midfield as they aim to secure their place back in the Portuguese top flight.
