Victor Boniface Sparks Concern After Cryptic Instagram Message

3 Min Read

Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has attracted attention from Nigerian football fans after deleting all the posts on his Instagram page and sharing an emotional message about his life.

The Bayer Leverkusen forward gave no explanation for the sudden decision, leaving supporters wondering what may have prompted the move.

Boniface cleared his Instagram grid before posting a prayer-like message directed towards God.

In the message, the Nigerian striker reflected on the difficult moments in his life while expressing gratitude for God’s presence during both his highs and lows.

The post quickly generated reactions on social media, with some fans expressing concern about the player’s wellbeing.

However, there has been no confirmation from Boniface, his representatives or Bayer Leverkusen that the player is suffering from depression. Claims made by some supporters online should therefore be treated as speculation rather than fact.

As speculation continued, Boniface appeared to respond to the attention surrounding his deleted posts.

The striker posted another message in Nigerian Pidgin suggesting that some of the reaction to his Instagram activity had become unnecessarily dramatic.

His response has done little to completely end the questions surrounding the decision to wipe his Instagram page, but it also shows that the player is aware of the discussion taking place around him.

Boniface has experienced a challenging period in his football career.

A serious injury disrupted his loan spell at Werder Bremen in 2025, while his return to Bayer Leverkusen has not gone as smoothly as expected.

The striker was recently left out of Leverkusen’s Europa League squad after falling behind in his fitness programme. Coach Carles Martínez said Boniface had previously struggled with knee problems and was not considered ready to compete across three competitions.

That situation has added to the uncertainty around the Nigerian forward, who has previously established himself as an important player for both Leverkusen and the Super Eagles.

For now, the reason behind Boniface’s decision to delete his Instagram posts remains unknown.

While supporters are understandably concerned by his latest activity, there is not enough evidence to conclude that the player is dealing with depression or another specific mental health condition.

The focus will now be on Boniface’s return to full fitness and his situation at Bayer Leverkusen, while Nigerian fans will hope that the 25-year-old is doing well both on and off the pitch.
