Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has officially returned to Chippa United on a free transfer, with the South African Premiership club confirming the move on Sunday as the Nigerian shot-stopper begins a second spell with the Chilli Boys.
The 30-year-old rejoins the Eastern Cape outfit just five months after leaving the club by mutual consent in February 2026. At the time, Nwabali had hoped to secure a move to a bigger club in Europe, the Middle East, or another top destination, but the anticipated transfer never materialised.

His prolonged spell without competitive football affected both his match fitness and his standing in the Super Eagles setup, raising concerns about his sharpness ahead of Nigeria’s upcoming international fixtures.
Chippa United welcomed the experienced goalkeeper back with an official announcement, expressing their delight at his return.
“Chippa United Football Club is delighted to welcome Stanley Nwabali back to the Chilli Boys,” the club said in a statement.
Nwabali has already linked up with head coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi and his teammates as preparations continue for the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season.
The Nigerian international first joined Chippa United in 2022 from Katsina United, quickly establishing himself as one of the league’s most dependable goalkeepers. His impressive club form earned him a place in Nigeria’s national team, where he enjoyed a breakthrough during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire.
Nwabali played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s journey to the AFCON final, producing a series of outstanding performances and keeping crucial clean sheets in the knockout stages to cement his reputation as one of Africa’s top goalkeepers.

Following his departure earlier this year, many expected the experienced shot-stopper to secure a move to a higher-profile league. However, with no suitable offers materialising, his return to Chippa United offers the opportunity to regain regular first-team football and rebuild the momentum that made him a fan favourite.
For Chippa United, the signing represents a significant boost ahead of the new campaign. The club will be counting on Nwabali’s experience, leadership, and commanding presence between the posts as they aim to improve on last season’s mid-table finish.
The move also provides a timely opportunity for the goalkeeper to work his way back into contention for the Super Eagles, with consistent performances at club level likely to strengthen his case for future national team call-ups.
As Stanley Nwabali embarks on this new chapter with familiar surroundings, both player and club will be hoping the reunion proves to be the perfect platform for a successful 2026/27 season.
