Super Eagles leader William Troost-Ekong has expressed concern over the prolonged clubless status of goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, while insisting the shot-stopper has the quality to secure a new club before the summer transfer window closes.
Speaking in a recent interview, Troost-Ekong admitted it has been difficult to see Nwabali without a club since the goalkeeper mutually terminated his contract with Chippa United in February 2026.
The timing of the departure proved challenging, as it came outside a major transfer window, limiting immediate opportunities for the Nigerian international.
“Obviously I can’t speak for Stanley, but based on how things have unfolded now, maybe it would’ve been a better decision to remain with Chippa. I’ve spoken to Stanley a lot. I know he’s been training and keeping fit.”

Nwabali’s absence from the most recent Super Eagles squad was widely attributed to his lack of regular club football, despite the goalkeeper’s impressive performances for Nigeria over the last two Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.
Troost-Ekong was quick to praise his teammate’s contribution to the national team.
“Stanley has been a soldier for us with two fantastic AFCONs. Terminating his contract outside the window made things tough. Hopefully a good opportunity comes his way this summer because we need him for the national team. For me, he’s too good a goalkeeper to be without a club.”

The 30-year-old goalkeeper joined Chippa United in 2022 and went on to establish himself as one of the standout Nigerian goalkeepers abroad. His performances at AFCON significantly boosted his reputation, attracting interest from clubs across Africa and beyond.
Despite speculation linking him with several teams in recent months, no deal has materialised so far. However, with the summer transfer market now active across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, opportunities are expected to emerge.
For Nigeria, securing regular playing time for Nwabali remains important ahead of upcoming international assignments. The Super Eagles coaching staff will be eager to see the goalkeeper return to competitive action as preparations continue for future AFCON and World Cup qualifying campaigns.
One thing is clear: despite his current situation, confidence within the national team remains high that Nwabali’s next move is only a matter of time. At 30 years old and with proven international pedigree, few believe he will remain without a club for much longer.
