Tanzanian giants Simba SC have emerged as the latest club to express concrete interest in Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, following his standout performances at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The AFCON bronze medallist has become one of the most sought-after goalkeepers on the continent, with Simba SC now officially opening discussions with his representatives as they look to reinforce their goalkeeping department.
Contract Situation Boosts Transfer Appeal
Nwabali, 29, currently plays for Chippa United in South Africa’s Betway Premiership and has entered the final six months of his contract. This makes him eligible to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with interested clubs ahead of a potential free transfer at the end of the season.
Sources close to the situation reveal that Simba are actively engaging Nwabali’s camp, exploring the possibility of either a January move or a free transfer in the summer. However, no agreement has been reached, and reports indicate that Simba are yet to submit a formal bid to Chippa United, who are understood to be open to offers.
Injury Crisis Forces Simba’s Hand
Simba’s urgency is driven by an ongoing goalkeeping crisis. First-choice keeper Moussa Camara is currently sidelined with a knee injury, forcing the club into the market.
While Simba has moved to sign Mahamadou Tanja Kassila from the Nigerien side AS FAN, the decision to potentially deregister Camara has reportedly caused internal tension. This has pushed the club to consider more stable, long-term solutions, with Nwabali high on their shortlist.
AFCON 2025 Breakout Star
Nwabali’s rising profile is largely credited to his exceptional showing at AFCON 2025, where he was instrumental in Nigeria’s run to the bronze medal.
The goalkeeper recorded four clean sheets in seven matches, earning plaudits for his shot-stopping ability, composure under pressure, and leadership traits that caught the attention of scouts across Africa and beyond.
Growing List of Suitors
Simba is far from alone in the race. Nwabali has previously been linked with several clubs, including
- Raja Club Athletic (Morocco)
- Kaizer Chiefs (South Africa)
- Al-Ettifaq (Saudi Arabia)
- Queens Park Rangers (England)
With his contract winding down and interest intensifying, the Super Eagles shot-stopper is expected to have multiple options as the transfer window progresses.
