Police later confirmed that preliminary investigations indicate a tyre blowout caused by excessive speed led to the crash.

Tragically, two of Joshua’s close friends, Sina Ghami and Kevin Latif Ayodele, who were travelling in the same vehicle, were killed. Joshua and another occupant survived and were taken to hospital.

While initial reports played down the extent of his injuries, sources close to Joshua have suggested there are concerns over possible damage to his ribs and knee.

Medical tests have reportedly shown no fractures, but the boxer has said he is experiencing pain throughout his body, particularly in his knees.

It is understood that Joshua will remain in hospital for at least a few more days and is expected to spend the New Year there, with his mother by his side.

He has also reassured Nigeria’s president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, that he is receiving the best possible medical care.

Further updates on Joshua’s condition are expected as he continues his recovery.
