Doma United technical adviser Ayeni Alexander has praised his players for their courage and resilience after the Savannah Tigers secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Inter Lagos in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
The Gombe-based side continued their perfect start to the 2026/27 NPFL season with another narrow victory, following their opening-day 2-0 win over Sporting Lagos.
The latest result came at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena on Saturday, September 5, with Sadiq Rilwan scoring the decisive goal in the second half.
Doma United had to remain patient before finally breaking Inter Lagos’ resistance, after a goalless first half, Sadiq Rilwan produced the moment that separated the two sides in the 71st minute.
The forward rose highest to meet Haruna Abutu’s long throw and headed the ball beyond Inter Lagos goalkeeper Bala Favour for his second goal of the campaign.
Inter Lagos pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages and even had another effort ruled out for offside, but Doma United’s defence remained organised to protect the lead.
Goalkeeper Ibrahim Pius also played an important role, making a key save earlier in the game to deny Kamaldeen Lawal when the hosts threatened to take the lead.
Following the victory, Ayeni Alexander credited the players’ mentality rather than simply the team’s tactical setup.
The technical adviser said the readiness of the players on the pitch was crucial to the result, while praising their courage, resilience and composure both on and off the ball.
For Doma United, the comments underline the importance of their ability to manage difficult moments. Against Inter Lagos, they remained patient, found their opening and then defended their advantage until the final whistle.
That discipline has been a major feature of their opening two matches, the victory means Doma United have collected six points from their first two NPFL matches.
They began the campaign with a 2-0 victory over Sporting Lagos before travelling to Lagos and defeating Inter Lagos 1-0.
The Savannah Tigers have also kept clean sheets in both games, scoring three goals without conceding.
The strong start has put Doma United among the early leaders in the NPFL, with the club showing plenty of defensive organisation and efficiency in front of goal.
For Inter Lagos, the defeat leaves them without a point from their opening two matches after also losing their first game of the season to Shooting Stars.
Doma United will now return to the Pantami Stadium in Gombe, where they will face Enyimba on Saturday, September 12.
The match will provide another major test for Ayeni’s side as they look to maintain their unbeaten start and build on their impressive return to the NPFL.
With two wins, three goals scored and no goals conceded, Doma United have made a statement in the early stages of the new campaign.
