Paul Onuachu Beats Osimhen and Ajibade to Win Naija Baller of the Week

The Nigerian striker delivered a standout performance in the Turkish top flight, scoring twice to help Trabzonspor secure a convincing home victory over Genclerbirligi.

His two-goal display proved enough to put him ahead of two other Nigerian stars who also enjoyed productive weekends in Europe.

Onuachu was at the heart of Trabzonspor’s attacking display, scoring two goals in a performance that underlined his importance to the Turkish side.

The towering forward’s movement inside the penalty area caused problems for Genclerbirligi throughout the match, while his finishing gave Trabzonspor the cutting edge needed to secure the victory.

His opening goal came at Papara Park before he added another to complete his decisive brace.

The performance also came at an important time for Onuachu, with the next international window approaching and competition for places in the Super Eagles attack expected to intensify.

Victor Osimhen was also among the leading contenders for the weekly award after continuing his excellent start to the season with Galatasaray.

The Super Eagles striker scored his sixth goal of the season for the Turkish champions, maintaining his strong goalscoring form.

However, his weekend was overshadowed by an injury concern after he suffered an adductor muscle problem during Galatasaray’s match.

That injury took some of the shine off what would otherwise have been another impressive individual performance.

Rasheedat Ajibade also made a strong case for the award after scoring for Paris Saint-Germain Féminine.

The Super Falcons captain found the net as PSG defeated RC Lens 2-0, producing another influential performance for the French club.

Ajibade’s contribution helped PSG start the campaign positively, but her single goal was ultimately edged by Onuachu’s match-winning brace.

The Nigerian forward therefore finished ahead of both Osimhen and Ajibade in the race for the weekly honour.

Beyond the individual recognition, Onuachu’s performance could strengthen his case for another opportunity with the Super Eagles.

With Nigeria’s upcoming international fixtures approaching, goals from players competing for attacking positions will be closely watched.

Onuachu’s two-goal performance gives him another strong argument, particularly as Nigeria continues to assess its attacking options.

For now, though, the Trabzonspor striker can enjoy the recognition after emerging ahead of two of the country’s biggest football stars.
