Nigeria’s Flamingos continued their perfect start to the 2026 WAFU B U17 Girls Cup with a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Burkina Faso on Monday evening at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium.
Goals from Mary Dunstan and Oluwakemi Adegbuyi secured all three points for the Flamingos, who remain at the top of the standings with a perfect nine points from three matches.
Nigeria dominated possession for much of the encounter but struggled to break down a disciplined Burkina Faso defence. Despite creating several opportunities and pressing high up the pitch, the Flamingos were unable to find the breakthrough before half-time.
The Hakeem Busari-coached side returned from the interval with greater attacking intensity and continued to put pressure on their opponents.
Their persistence finally paid off in the 82nd minute when Dunstan found the back of the net to give Nigeria a deserved lead.
Burkina Faso attempted to respond, but the Flamingos remained composed and eventually put the result beyond doubt deep into stoppage time, with Adegbuyi scoring Nigeria’s second goal.
The victory extends Nigeria’s unbeaten run and strengthens their position at the top of the competition. The Flamingos finished as runners-up in the inaugural edition of the tournament two years ago and have now recorded consecutive victories, including a thrilling 4-2 win over Ghana.
The WAFU B U17 Girls Cup is also providing valuable preparation for teams ahead of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, scheduled to take place in Morocco from mid-October. Nigeria have already secured their place at the global tournament.
With nine points from three games, the Flamingos will now look to maintain their momentum and use their remaining matches in Côte d’Ivoire to further prepare for their World Cup campaign.
