Arthur Okonkwo has put an end to speculation surrounding his future after returning to Wrexham’s starting lineup in their final pre-season match, despite the Welsh club slipping to a narrow 1-0 defeat against Sunderland in the United States.
The Nigerian goalkeeper played the entire game at Subaru Park in Philadelphia as Wrexham wrapped up their pre-season tour, with Nordi Mukiele’s first-half strike proving the difference between the two sides.
Questions had been raised over Okonkwo’s future after he was surprisingly left out of Wrexham’s squad for the high-profile friendly against Liverpool.
The omission sparked reports linking the former Arsenal academy goalkeeper with a possible exit from the club.
However, his return to the starting XI against Sunderland suggests those rumours were wide of the mark.
Okonkwo delivered a composed performance between the posts, producing a couple of important saves to keep Wrexham in the contest.
