Victor Boniface has described his time at Bayer Leverkusen as a “lifetime achievement,” reflecting on an extraordinary three-year journey that transformed both his career and the club’s history.
The Super Eagles forward, who joined the Bundesliga side from Belgian outfit Union Saint-Gilloise in July 2023, quickly established himself as a key figure under then-manager Xabi Alonso. His arrival coincided with one of the most remarkable periods in Leverkusen’s history.
In his debut season, Boniface played a pivotal role as Leverkusen ended Bayern Munich’s long-standing dominance of German football by winning their first-ever Bundesliga title.
The triumph was made even more remarkable by the club completing the entire league campaign unbeaten before securing the DFB-Pokal to seal a historic domestic double.
Leverkusen added another trophy to their growing collection by lifting the German Super Cup in 2024, further cementing an unforgettable era for the club.
Speaking to the club’s media to mark the anniversary of his arrival, Boniface reflected on what the achievements mean to him.
“Three years ago, I came here. Of course, it’s good. Like you said, it’s been three years now, and we have achieved a lot,” he said.
Although only three years have passed, the Nigerian international admitted the memories and accomplishments feel far greater than the time suggests.
“It might be like three years ago, but to me, it’s like a lifetime achievement. It was like a dream also. We achieved something big for myself, for the club, and like I said, for the fans also.”
Boniface’s contributions during the historic 2023/24 campaign extended beyond statistics.
His goals, physical presence, and attacking quality helped fuel Leverkusen’s remarkable unbeaten league run and their domestic cup success, earning him a place among the club’s standout performers during a golden chapter in its history.
Despite taking time to celebrate those milestones, the 25-year-old insists his attention is firmly fixed on what lies ahead.
“This is a new year and hopefully also we can achieve a lot this season,” he added.
With another campaign underway, Boniface is determined to build on the success that has already defined his Leverkusen career.
Having helped deliver the club’s first Bundesliga title and multiple domestic trophies, the Nigerian striker now has his sights set on writing another chapter in what has already become a dream journey in Germany.
