French club Stade Reims have completed the signing of promising Nigerian midfielder John Otomewo from Israeli outfit Hapoel Jerusalem.
The 19-year-old defensive midfielder has emerged as one of Nigeria’s exciting young prospects following an impressive breakthrough campaign in Israel, earning himself a move to France as he continues his rapid development in European football.
Born in Sapele, Delta State, Otomewo is a right-footed holding midfielder admired for his composure in possession, tactical awareness, and ability to shield the backline. His mature performances for Hapoel Jerusalem quickly established him as one of the club’s brightest young talents.
During the 2025/26 season, Otomewo made 13 appearances in the Israeli Ligat Ha’Al, while also featuring during the relegation round. He also registered a goal in the State Cup, further showcasing his ability to contribute at both ends of the pitch.
The youngster only joined Hapoel Jerusalem’s senior squad in December 2025, having initially impressed with the club’s Under-19 side. His swift progression attracted interest from several European clubs before Stade Reims won the race for his signature.
According to reports, Otomewo has successfully completed his medical and is scheduled to travel to France on July 14, 2026, where he will finalise the remaining paperwork before being officially unveiled by the club.

The club believes Otomewo’s defensive qualities, composure on the ball, and long-term potential make him an ideal fit for their project.

His performances have already placed him on the radar of Nigeria’s national team setup, with reports indicating he is among the players being monitored for the Nigeria U-23 side by head coach Eric Chelle, who also oversees the Super Eagles.
