Belgian champions Club Brugge are preparing to part ways with Nigerian midfielder Raphael Onyedika, with Eintracht Frankfurt emerging as the clear favourites to secure the Super Eagles star’s signature this summer.
The 25-year-old defensive midfielder has reportedly agreed to personal terms with the Bundesliga club, leaving Frankfurt to finalise negotiations with Club Brugge over a transfer fee. Talks between the two clubs are progressing, with the German side hopeful of completing the deal before the close of the transfer window.
Onyedika has been one of Club Brugge’s most consistent performers since arriving from Danish side FC Midtjylland in 2022. During his three-year spell in Belgium, the Nigerian international established himself as the heartbeat of the midfield, making 183 appearances across all competitions while contributing nine goals and six assists. He also played a key role in the club’s domestic success and their UEFA Champions League campaigns.
With just one year remaining on his contract, Club Brugge are reportedly seeking around €10 million for the midfielder. Frankfurt’s opening bid was turned down, but negotiations remain active and the Bundesliga outfit is expected to submit an improved offer in the coming days.
Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad briefly entered the race with an official proposal, creating competition for the Nigerian’s signature. However, reports suggest the Saudi club’s offer fell below Club Brugge’s valuation, with their interest now appearing to have cooled, leaving Frankfurt in pole position.
Onyedika has reportedly rejected the opportunity to sign a new contract in Belgium, making it clear that he is ready for the next stage of his career. A move to the Bundesliga would provide the midfielder with a fresh challenge in one of Europe’s top leagues while strengthening his position in Nigeria’s national team ahead of future international competitions.
For Eintracht Frankfurt, the signing would add experience, physicality, and defensive stability to their midfield as they prepare for another demanding domestic and European campaign.
