Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz have fired an early warning to Nigeria’s Super Eagles ahead of their highly anticipated showdown in the 2026 Unity Cup final after sealing an impressive 2-0 victory over India.
Goals from debutant Courtney Clarke and rising star Kaheim Dixon secured Jamaica’s place in the final for the second consecutive year, setting up another blockbuster meeting with the Super Eagles in London.
The fixture reignites a growing rivalry between both nations after their dramatic encounter in last year’s final, where Nigeria edged Jamaica 5-4 on penalties following a thrilling 2-2 draw in regulation time.
Despite the heartbreak of that defeat, Jamaica head coach Rudolph Speid insists his side is arriving this year with greater belief and determination to finally overcome the three-time African champions.
“You guys [Nigeria] have always beaten us every single time before. I am hoping that’s not the case this time,” Speid said during his post-match press conference.
“But it’s always exciting to play against Nigeria. They play exciting football and are one of the powerhouses in Africa. We always look forward to playing them. Last year was very exciting, and this year I hope we’ll have better results against them.”
The Jamaican coach revealed that his technical crew will carefully study footage of Nigeria’s 2-0 semifinal victory over Zimbabwe as they prepare their tactical approach for the final.
Speid, however, made it clear that while he respects the quality within Eric Chelle’s squad, he believes the Super Eagles are far from unbeatable.
“They are very, very good, but every team is beatable, and we have to be aware of what they bring. We have some things to bring ourselves,” he said.
“Jamaica is still in a rebuilding stage with lots of young players, but nobody is a winner before the game is played. That’s where we are right now.”
The upcoming final will add another chapter to the competition’s rich history between both nations. Except for the 2004 round-robin edition, Nigeria and Jamaica have contested every final in the tournament’s history, further fueling anticipation for another entertaining battle.
