Among the players strongly linked with potential call-ups are Owen Oseni of Plymouth Argyle, Pisa striker Rafiu Durosinmi, Hamburg winger Philip Otele, Dukla Prague midfielder Samson Tijani and Ikorodu City captain Tosin Oyedokun.

Speaking to TVC News, Chelle stressed the importance of creating opportunities for players capable of fitting into his long-term vision for the national team.

“Nigeria is blessed with a lot of talent, but not all will play at the same time, so I try my best to give opportunities to those who can fit into our philosophy and vision, which is to become the best,” the Malian tactician said.

Following the Unity Cup, Nigeria are scheduled to face Poland national football team and Portugal national football team in high-profile international friendlies, with Chelle expected to select a stronger and more experienced squad for those encounters.

However, the coach admitted that managing player fitness and availability could prove challenging, especially with many Europe-based stars set to begin their off-season break after a demanding campaign.

“At this time, this is difficult because for these games against Poland and Portugal, players are on holiday,” Chelle explained.

“They have spent a year playing, some have minor injuries, and they need to rest, so it will depend on how they feel.”

The former Mali coach also disclosed that he has been closely monitoring talents in the Nigeria Premier Football League ahead of the Unity Cup squad announcement.

Chelle was recently spotted attending domestic league matches as he continued his assessment of local-based players.

“There are some good talents in the league. I watched some of them because I follow them, and I wanted to see them in real situations,” he said.

“I have already made my choice, so we will see in a few days.”

Despite recently being linked with coaching vacancies across Africa and in the French top flight after the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Chelle reaffirmed his commitment to succeeding with Nigeria and delivering results under the intense pressure that comes with managing one of Africa’s biggest football nations.

“When I took the job, my goal was to win,” Chelle stated.

“If you are the coach of the Super Eagles, you need to win, so there is a lot of pressure, but I’m ready to do my job and try to give the best for this country.”
