Former Super Eagles captain and ex-Juventus midfielder Sunday Oliseh has responded strongly to criticism surrounding his commentary on Nigeria’s 2–1 victory over Tanzania at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, rejecting claims that he lacks support for the national team.

In a statement shared on social media, Oliseh described the accusations as unfair and unfounded, stressing that his role as a football analyst demands honesty and objectivity rather than unquestioning loyalty.

Oliseh pointed out the contradiction in recent reactions to his commentary, recalling that he had previously been accused of being overly supportive of the coaching crew. According to him, these opposing claims highlight a misunderstanding of his professional role.

“Just recently, I was accused of being ‘too supportive’ of the coaching staff. To now be accused of the opposite suggests a misunderstanding of my role as an analyst,” he said.

“My loyalty to the Green and White requires no defence.”

Following their win over Tanzania, Nigeria currently sit second in Group C, behind Tunisia on goal difference after the Carthage Eagles’ 3–1 victory over Uganda.

The Super Eagles will face Tunisia next in a decisive group match that could significantly boost their chances of finishing top and securing a more favourable knockout-stage draw.
