World Cup: Chelle Welcomes 20 Players as Super Eagles Intensify Preparations for Lesotho Clash

2 Min Read

Super Eagles Head Coach Eric Sekou Chelle will have 20 players at his disposal for Wednesday’s second training session in Polokwane, ahead of Nigeria’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying tie against Lesotho.

As of Tuesday night, 18 players had checked into The Ranch Hotel camp, with FC Porto defender Zaidu Sanusi and Sevilla forward Jerome Akor Adams expected to join up on Wednesday. Alhassan Yusuf Abdullahi, who plies his trade with the New England Revolution in the United States, is scheduled to arrive on Thursday.

Chelle has been forced into several changes following injuries to key squad members. Bright Osayi-Samuel and Cyriel Dessers have both been ruled out, with Sanusi and Crystal Palace midfielder Christantus Uche drafted in as replacements. Wing-back Felix Agu’s injury had earlier reduced the squad size from 23 to 22.

Meanwhile, Russia-based forward Olakunle Olusegun is yet to receive a South African entry visa, raising the possibility that Nigeria could go into Friday’s match with 21 players.
