The National Sports Commission (NSC) has hailed the Nigeria Women’s Basketball Team, D’Tigress, for their historic achievement in winning the Afrobasket title for the fifth consecutive time, setting a remarkable record that may stand for years to come.

Displaying passion, determination, and the composure of true champions, the Nigerian team triumphed once again, overpowering the rest of Africa at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. In Sunday’s final, D’Tigress defeated Mali 78-64 to claim their seventh Women’s Afrobasket title, while also extending their unbeaten streak in the competition to 29 consecutive victories since 2015.

The leadership of the NSC, including Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko and Director General Hon. Bukola Olopade, commended the team for their consistent excellence and dedication to the nation. The NSC leadership, whose tenure has played a crucial role in reshaping Nigerian sports, praised the girls for their unwavering heart and determination.

Chairman Shehu Dikko, who was present in Abidjan alongside a high-level government delegation to support the team, remarked, “The passion President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has for Nigerian sports is already paying off, with consistent international success across our national teams. This is the kind of leadership Nigerians have long hoped for – a President deeply committed to sports development. These back-to-back international successes, first in football and now in basketball, are significant milestones.”
