Moses Simon has been flying the Nigerian flag high in France, and now he’s getting the recognition he truly deserves.
The FC Nantes winger has been nominated for the 2024 Marc-Vivien Foé Award, which is given every year to the best African player in Ligue 1. It’s one of the biggest honors for African stars playing in France, named after the late Cameroonian legend, Marc-Vivien Foé.
Simon kicked off the season in great form—quick on the wings, sharp with his crosses, and dangerous in the final third. In just 22 league games, he notched up 3 goals and 6 assists, becoming a key player for Nantes. Whether it was setting up teammates or making those fast, tricky runs, Simon kept defenders on their toes.

Unfortunately, in March, while on international duty with the Super Eagles, Simon picked up a serious ankle injury that ruled him out for the rest of the season. It was a big blow to both club and country, especially with how well he’d been playing.

But even from the sidelines, his performances were too good to be ignored.
That’s why he made the shortlist for this year’s Marc-Vivien Foé Award, standing alongside some of the best African talents in Ligue 1. If he wins, Simon will become the third Nigerian to ever claim the prize—after Vincent Enyeama in 2014 and Victor Osimhen in 2020.
The winner will be announced on May 13, and fans across Nigeria are already buzzing with excitement.
No matter what happens, one thing is clear: Moses Simon showed true quality this season, and this nomination proves he’s still one of the top African players in Europe.
