Mountain of Fire and Miracle football club, this afternoon at the Teslim Balogun Stadium defeated hard fighting Freestan football club 4-2 on penalties after both sides ended the regulation time 2-2, in the second semi final to qualify for the final of the WGB /Lagos FA Cup.
The match which was dubbed as the battle of David against Goliath, lived up to its billings. What with end to end actions by both sides. NPFL table toppers, MFM took the game to their non league opposition and expectedly got the opener in the 12th minute of play through Chidi who took advantage of a defensive slip by Freestan. And with the impressive crowd expectant of a rout by MFM, the Ajegunle based side buoyed by their large and voiceferous fans took the game to their more illustrious opponents and deservedly got the equalizer through skilful midfielder Samuel Ogu.
Swift and sleeky interchange of passes by Sikiru Olatunbosun and Chukwuka Onuwa created some anxious moments for Freestan defenders who however, remained resolute. Another momentary loss of concentration in defence of Freestan paved way for Adegboyega to slip in the second goal for MFM, to end the first half 2-1 in favour of the Olukoya Boys.
The second stanza began on a frantic note and with midfield trio of Felix Iritei, Kunle Irinyemi and Samuel Ogu stringing beautiful passes and with attackers Stephen Agha and Sunday Ojabor tormenting the defence line of MFM. In one of its attacking forays, Irinyemi slotted the ball into the net for Freestan’s equalizer and his third goal in as many games.
The goal seemingly brought out the fire in MFM and they show class and alot of professionalism, who pressurized the defenders of Freestan for another goal without success. To the consternation of the fans who were on the edges of their seats, both sides missed sitters towards the end of the pulsating encounter. And to penalty kicks, the game went into. At the end of the kicks, it was victory for MFM. Chukwuka Onuwa the shortest man in the Nigeria Professional Football League was voted the Most Valueable Player.

Despite the Loss the owner and director of Freestan FC, Prince Efemena Elutabe was a happy man and proud of his boys saying they gave a good fight and do not forget we played a professional side and with this quality display from my boys the sky is our limit in the industry and we are not disgraced, and i believe the whole Ajegunle will be very proud of us because that is where football lives says Elutabe.
In the first semi final match played earlier, Spartans football club defeated Dominion Hotspurs 4-2 on penalties after 0-0 in duration time to set set up a mouth watering final against defending champions MFM on Sunday.
