Abia Warriors 3-0 Kano Pillars
Abia Warriors stretched their unbeaten run to five games after stepping up to humiliate Kano Pillars 3-0 on Sunday. The Ucendu Babes were in front eight minutes into the game thanks to an own goal by Joel Djondang. Substitute Sherif Bashir doubled the lead shortly after his introduction in the second stanza. Striker Sunday Adetunji added a third as the party started at the Umuahia Township Stadium.
Plateau United 4-1 ABS FC
Plateau United were in fine form as they hammered ABS 4-1 at the Rwang Pam Stadium.
The Peace Boys went ahead after 20 minutes as Joshua Obaje headed the ball home. Emmanuel Olowo turned Mohammed Mohammed’s ball to his own net for an equaliser to the Saraki Boys.
It all went wrong for the visitors in the 40th minute. Chukwuebuka Anaekwe was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box by the centre referee, and Reuben Bala stepped up to masterfully convert from the spot.
In the second half the rout continued, Bala added two more goals and completed a magical hat trick for himself.
Enyimba FC 1-0 Rivers United
Enyimba got a 1-0 result at home against a stubborn Rivers United defence to improve their position in the NPFL standings. The hosts built some pressure in the opening half by winning several corners and creating some decent chances but simply couldn’t find the target, sending most of their efforts past the wrong side of the woodwork. The People’s Elephants finally broke through the Pride of Rivers’ in the 66th minute. Mfon Udoh was the man with the solitary strike.
Katsina United 1-0 Enugu Rangers
Katsina United pipped Enugu Rangers 1-0 at the Mohammodou Dikko Stadium courtesy of a sixth minute spot kick from Timothy Danladi.
Danladi scored the only goal of the match to hand Baldwin Bazuaye tutored team the win which sees them up to 11th in the table with 19 points.
Rangers tried to find their way back, but struggled to strike a meaningful rhythm. The loss for the Flying Antelopes is their sixth of the season and sees them at the bottom with 12 points from 12 games.
Niger Tornadoes 2-1 Sunshine Stars
Sunshine Stars suffered their seventh defeat of the season as they lost 2-1 to Niger Tornadoes.
The Ikon Allah Boys opened the scoring in the 45th minute. Gabriel Jeremiah got on the end of Lukas Yahaya’s long thrust to put the home team in the lead.
Sadiq Suleiman should have doubled the advantage after the hour but his penalty kick was saved by Sunshine Stars’ goalkeeper Ojo Olorunleke.
That gingered the visitors to mount a comeback and Kehinde Adedipe heeded the call when he even the score line at 1-1. Yahaya had the final say with a last-gasp winner for Tornadoes.
Gombe United 1-0 MFM FC
Sadiq Shuaibu netted the only goal as Gombe United edged MFM FC 1-0 at the Pantami International Stadium. Augustine Oladapo surprisingly failed to find target following a spot-kick awarded to the homers in the first 45 minutes.
Shuaibu shot the Savannah Scorpions ahead in the 54th minute. Gombe hung on to the victory as the Olukoya Boys unsuccessfully probed their defence throughout the regulation minutes.
Remo Stars 2-1 Wikki Tourists
Remo Stars condemned Wikki Tourists to the bottom four with a 2-1 home victory over the Giant Elephants. Debutant Chidume Victor opened the scoring for the Sky Blue Stars following a brilliant delivery from Abiodun Awoyemi, before slotting the ball past goalkeeper Emeka Nwabulu. There was an instant reply on part of the Bauchi outfit. Winger Richard Jonathan silenced the Sagamu fans late in the first half. A late spot kick converted by Victor Mbaoama proved to be enough for Stars to grab a morale boosting three points.
El-Kanemi Warriors 1-0 Lobi Stars
El-Kanemi Warriors’ 100% home record is still intact in the top flight following their 1-0 victory against Lobi Stars. Samuel Mathias’ ferocious strike in the 84th minute made the difference for the Desert Warriors. The win was the ninth of the campaign for the Ladan Bosso tutored lads, while Lobi Stars will return home empty handed. Thomas Zenke broke the deadlock in the 85th minute as Nasarawa United maintained their push to the continent with a hard-fought 1-0 win against Shooting Stars.
Zenke tapped in from Adamu Hassan’s beautiful lay-off, which spelt the end of the Oluyole Warriors’ six-match unbeaten run. The result lifted the Solid Miners to ninth and sent Shooting Stars to 15th on the log.
Akwa United 1-1 Ifeanyi Ubah
In the final game on Sunday evening, Akwa United and Ifeanyi Ubah were forced to share the spoils after playing a 1-1 draw.
The visitors broke the deadlock after just two minutes through Pascal Seka via some poor goalkeeping by Kayode. The Promise Keepers eventually leveled matters in the 74th minute courtesy of a strike from Cyril Olisema, who just recently come on as a substitute.
The clash ended on a sour note for the visitors, as they were reduced to 10 men when Elu Wilson was sent off for a poor tackle.
