Preparation for the 2017 edition of Ekofootball Women Championship, tagged, LAGOS FOR HER Season 2 is in top gear as the date for the seminar for the championship draws closer.
The championship, which is put together by the Lagos State Football Association, LSFA, aimed at empowering and developing the girl child through football, will commence with a seminar on 25 January at the Molade Okoya Indoor Hall of Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
The seminar with the topic, Cultivating Confidence, Self Respect and Assertiveness will see top level career women from various fields mentoring and lecturing students, female players and other stakeholders.
Wale Joseph, Chairman of the Women Football Committee of the Lagos State FA revealed that the committee is working round the clock to ensure that a very successful seminar and championship is delivered.
He informed that the championship will kick-off on 4 February, 2017 at the legendary Onikan Stadium, Lagos with the finals holding 18 February at the same venue.
Joseph, who is a ranking member of the Board of Lagos FA and a national officer of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) , noted that, “LSFA as constituted is saddled with the responsibility of football administration and development in the state, hence the aim of talent identification, youth development and empowerment of youths especially the girl child for a better rewarding future”.
Speaking further, he submitted that there is need to pay more attention to women football which has brought more glory to the country than even the men football in terms of trophies won at the senior level on the continent.
He seeks the support of both corporate organizations and corporate individuals for an eventful championship that will not only produce great footballers that will make the country proud in the nearest future, but also quality and highly educated women for the nation.
