Nigeria’s U-20 women’s national team head coach, Moses Aduku, visited the Flamingos’ camp in Abuja on Monday to deliver an inspiring message ahead of their participation in the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.
Aduku encouraged the Flamingos to remain focused and carry forward the spirit of excellence as they prepare to represent the nation on the global stage. He urged the players to approach the tournament with belief, unity, and resilience, stressing that their performance would not only shape their individual futures but also reflect Nigeria’s stature in women’s football.
“You’ve worked hard to get to this point, now go out there and make yourselves and Nigeria proud,” Aduku said. “Play with confidence, discipline, and the same hunger that has brought you this far.”
He also praised the technical team for orchestrating a flawless build-up, highlighted by an unbeaten run in ten preparatory matches, during which the Flamingos scored 44 goals and conceded none.
Additionally, Ameenu Mohammed, NFF Referee Assessor and Special Assistant to the NFF General Secretary, addressed the team on the importance of understanding the laws of the game. Mohammed underscored how knowledge of football’s evolving rules and maintaining discipline on the pitch can prevent costly mistakes during matches.
“A good player must not only play well but also understand the rules. Knowing the laws of the game gives you an edge and helps you make better decisions on the field,” he explained.
The Flamingos are scheduled to depart Nigeria on October 8 via Royal Air Maroc, with Group D fixtures beginning against Canada on October 19, followed by matches against France on October 22, and Samoa on October 25.
