The Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos, will take centre stage on Sunday, 23 August 2026, as Nigerian football legends gather for the grand finale of the Bet9ja Foundation Ex-Internationals Cup.
The tournament’s final day will begin with the third-place play-off at 12pm, as FC Okpara take on FC Alloy for the bronze medal. Both sides have shown determination throughout the competition and will be looking to finish their campaigns on a winning note.
The headline fixture follows at 3pm, with FC Babington facing FC Enegwea in the grand final. The two teams have emerged as the leading contenders in the competition and will battle for the title in what promises to be a fitting finale to a tournament celebrating Nigeria’s football heritage.
Beyond the competition, the Bet9ja Foundation Ex-Internationals Cup is designed to recognise the contributions of former Nigerian internationals, promote their welfare and reconnect them with supporters and the wider football community.
Speaking on behalf of the organisers, Wale Joseph thanked the Bet9ja Foundation for its support of the initiative and its commitment to the welfare of former players.
“We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Bet9ja Foundation for believing in this vision and for their substantial support of our ex-internationals. This tournament transcends football; it is about welfare, recognition and giving back to the men who proudly donned the green and white,” Joseph said.
He added that the competition provides an important platform for retired footballers to remain connected to the game while receiving greater recognition for their contributions to Nigerian football.
“For far too long, our heroes have been overlooked after retirement. This platform provides them with an opportunity to reunite, compete and access resources that can enhance their lives post-football,” he added.
The organisers said preparations for the grand finale have been completed, with security, medical support and fan-engagement activities in place for the event.
Admission to the grand finale will be free, giving football supporters an opportunity to watch some of Nigeria’s former football stars return to the pitch while celebrating the legacy of the country’s ex-internationals.
The Bet9ja Foundation Ex-Internationals Cup is ultimately more than a football tournament. It is a celebration of Nigeria’s football heritage and an initiative aimed at ensuring that the players who helped shape the country’s football story remain recognised, valued and connected to the game.
