Iwobi Deal Dead on Arrival — Fulham Shut Atlético Down

2 Min Read

Alex Iwobi is the latest name lighting up the summer transfer window, as Atlético Madrid made a bold €25 million (£21.5 million) offer to sign the Nigerian midfielder from Fulham, but the London club isn’t backing down.

The Spanish side tabled a four-year contract worth €7 million per year (about £115,000 a week), targeting Iwobi as a direct replacement for Yannick Carrasco. Atlético’s coach, Diego Simeone, reportedly sees Iwobi’s pace, work rate, and experience as an ideal addition to bolster their midfield depth ahead of the new season.

But Fulham instantly rejected the bid, standing firm that the 29-year-old is not for sale. Sources close to the club confirmed that manager Marco Silva views Iwobi as untouchable following his standout 2024/25 season.

Iwobi played every single minute of the Premier League campaign, the second time in his career he’s done so, becoming the first Nigerian to ever reach that milestone twice. He contributed 9 goals and 6 assists, powering Fulham to a mid-table finish and increasing his value as both a leader and consistent performer.

He’s currently tied to Fulham until June 2028, and the club is in no rush to entertain transfer talks, especially with preseason already underway.

While Iwobi is believed to be open to the move, no personal terms have been agreed, and Fulham are not interested in negotiating unless a much higher offer comes in.

For now, Iwobi remains at Craven Cottage, but with the transfer window still wide open, this story may be far from over.
