Ademola Lookman has enlivened Atalanta’s optimism for participation in the Champions League after netting the opening goal from a first-time shot in a match against AS Roma.

The game, which culminated in a 2-1 triumph following Ibrahim Sulemana’s late goal, has consolidated the club’s third position in the Serie A

Ademola Lookman was a doubt for the game, given an injury he sustained in their 4-0 victory over Monza last weekend, as suggested by initial reports.

The Super Eagles star’s inclusion in the starting eleven was effective and profited the club significantly as evidenced by his opening goal with an assist from Charles De Ketelaere, thereby justifying the coach’s decision.

Prior to Sulemana’s goal, Atalanta were held down in a 1-1 stalemate before the half-time break after Bryan Cristante got onto a deflected cross to head the ball into the net.

In the second half, AS Roma got a penalty but had their hopes dashed after VAR checked and reversed the referee’s penalty decision.

With Sulemana’s late goal, Atalanta fought tooth and nail to maintain the lead till the end of the final whistle, making their qualification for the Champions League next season sure.
