The National Association of Nigeria Professional Footballers NANPF commend the leadership of the League Management Company for its decision to intervene on the crises rocking Sunshine FC following the protest march by Sunshine Stars FC players and officials and other affiliate teams of the Ondo State Football Agency for non payment of their salaries for several months
Information at the disposal of the players Union suggest that the LMC has agreed to pay the affected players and coaches of Sunshine Stars FC some part of the salaries as pałlative measure to enable them go back to their training and prepare for their next league game. The union equally welcome and support the decision of the LMC requesting the club to open up its books for investigation in accordance with the relevant provisions of the LMC framework following the admission by the former Governor of the state that he has been releasing the monies for the payment of players and officials salaries and other expenses to the club.
As we have stated earlier, it is important that the players and officials of clubs must take up the responsibility of protecting their welfare and career by giving out the right informations on their welfare status to the relevant football regulatory and organizing bodies, including the union to avoid the ugly incidence of the Sunshine crises capable of affecting the growth and development of the game if not properly manged.
In a related development NANPF congratulate His excellency Rotimi Akeredolu, a patron of the players Union, who is being sworn in today as the executive governor of Ondo State. We rejoice with you and the good people of Ondo State. May your leadership move the state forward and deliver the dividends of democracy to the people.
We equally want to use this opportunity to appeal to you to look into the plight of our members, players and officials of Sunshine Stars and Sunshine Queen who staged a protest match to government house on the eve of your swearing in ceremony over unpaid salaries and allowances. Long live Ondo State.
