Former House of Representatives member and Chairman of the Plateau State Football Association, Honourable Suleiman Kwande, has outlined an ambitious package of incentives for players, coaches, clubs, states and strategic partners ahead of the inaugural Renewed Hope National Unity Cup, describing the competition as a transformative project for grassroots football development in Nigeria.

Speaking on the tournament, Kwande confirmed that the groundbreaking competition will officially kick off on October 1, bringing together teams from all 774 Local Government Areas across Nigeria in what is expected to become one of the country’s largest grassroots football championships.

According to Kwande, the two-month tournament is exclusively designed for male footballers aged between 18 and 20, providing a national platform for emerging talents to compete, develop and attract professional opportunities.

Describing the competition as “a visionary national grassroots initiative conceived to revolutionise football development across Nigeria,” Kwande said the Renewed Hope National Unity Cup goes beyond football by creating pathways for youth empowerment, technical development and national integration.

Among the major benefits announced are the full kitting of every participating team, comprehensive logistical support and a Train-the-Trainer coaching education programme aimed at equipping grassroots coaches with modern football knowledge and internationally recognised best practices.

Kwande explained that the successful delivery of the tournament will be powered by extensive collaboration involving the Federal Government, state governments, corporate organisations, development agencies, international football bodies, private investors, philanthropic organisations and patriotic Nigerians committed to advancing youth and sports development.

“These partnerships will facilitate the provision of equipment, coaching education, live broadcast, football infrastructure, player welfare, logistics and comprehensive talent identification programmes.

“The Renewed Hope National Unity Cup will promote national unity and social cohesion, discover and develop football talents from every part of Nigeria, guarantee representation for all 774 Local Government Areas, provide global visibility through digital broadcasting, strengthen grassroots football structures and enhance the technical capacity of Nigerian coaches.

“Together, these stakeholders will help build a sustainable football ecosystem capable of producing elite players, highly qualified coaches, stronger football institutions and the critical resources needed to deliver a world-class grassroots football competition for generations to come.”

The Renewed Hope National Unity Cup is expected to become one of the most ambitious football development initiatives ever staged in Nigeria, combining elite grassroots competition with nationwide talent discovery, coaching education, digital exposure and youth empowerment.

With participation guaranteed for every Local Government Area, the tournament is positioned to create unprecedented opportunities for young footballers while strengthening Nigeria’s long-term football development structure from the grassroots to the elite level.
