Through a series of awards, financial incentives and grassroots initiatives, the former international has continued to champion goalkeepers in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL), providing support that extends far beyond the pitch.

Her efforts have gradually evolved into one of the league’s most notable player recognition programmes, with a clear focus on celebrating goalkeepers whose contributions often receive less attention than those of outfield players.

The foundation of that commitment was laid three years ago with the launch of the Goalkeeping Weekly Award, an initiative created to honour outstanding goalkeeping performances throughout the NWFL season.

Since its introduction, the programme has continued to expand, becoming one of the few football development initiatives in Nigeria dedicated exclusively to goalkeepers.

According to observations within the league, nearly 95 percent of goalkeepers currently competing in the NWFL have benefited from the weekly recognition programme at one point or another.

For many recipients, the award has become more than just a weekly recognition. It has served as encouragement, motivation and acknowledgment of the vital role goalkeepers play in every team’s success.

Chime’s commitment has extended beyond weekly awards.

During the 2025 NWFL Super Six tournament, she personally rewarded all 24 goalkeepers participating in the competition with complete goalkeeper jersey sets.

The gesture was widely applauded across the women’s football community as a practical show of appreciation for players who often perform one of football’s toughest roles with little individual recognition.

For many grassroots athletes who face challenges accessing quality football equipment, the donation represented meaningful support that went beyond symbolic recognition.

Her investment in goalkeeper development continued into the 2025/2026 NWFL season with the introduction of end-of-season financial rewards aimed at celebrating excellence both on and off the pitch.

The initiative offered a ₦200,000 cash prize for the Best Goalkeeper of the Season and a ₦70,000 cash prize for the Best Goalkeeper Coach of the Season, recognising not only exceptional individual performances but also the coaches responsible for developing elite goalkeepers.

The inaugural recipients were Fatimo Oloko of Abia Angels, who claimed the Best Goalkeeper Award, and Coach Emeka Obi, who received the Best Goalkeeper Coach Award.

By recognising goalkeeper coaches alongside players, the initiative has also drawn attention to a group whose contributions often go unnoticed despite their importance in player development.

Beyond the Nigeria Women Football League, Chime has remained actively involved in grassroots football, dedicating her time and resources to identifying and nurturing young talents across the country.

Her continued investment in youth development reflects a long-term commitment to strengthening the future of women’s football by creating opportunities for aspiring footballers, particularly young goalkeepers seeking a pathway into the professional game.

As someone who spent years between the posts for the Super Falcons, Chime understands the unique demands of the position. Goalkeepers often carry enormous responsibility during matches, knowing that a single mistake can determine the outcome while outstanding performances frequently receive less attention than goals scored at the other end of the pitch.

Rather than allowing her legacy to rest solely on her achievements as a player, she has continued to give back by creating opportunities for the next generation of goalkeepers to earn recognition and support throughout their careers.

Her work demonstrates that football development extends beyond coaching appointments or administrative roles. Consistent investment in players, particularly those whose efforts are often overlooked, can also have a lasting impact on the growth of the game.

Years after retiring from active football, Dr. Mrs. Judith Chime continues to make a significant contribution to Nigerian women’s football.

From establishing the Goalkeeping Weekly Award, supporting the vast majority of NWFL goalkeepers through weekly recognition, rewarding all 24 goalkeepers at the 2025 NWFL Super Six, introducing financial prizes for outstanding performers and goalkeeper coaches, to maintaining her commitment to grassroots talent development, she has built a legacy centred on strengthening one of football’s most specialised positions.

Her sustained efforts continue to provide opportunities, recognition and encouragement for goalkeepers while contributing to the continued development of women’s football in Nigeria.
