Nigeria national football team defender Calvin Bassey has been ruled out of Nigeria’s upcoming international friendlies against Iran and Jordan after suffering a back injury.
The 25-year-old center-back sustained the setback during Fulham F.C.’s 3-1 victory over Burnley F.C. last weekend, prompting his withdrawal from the national team camp in Turkey.
In an official statement released on Wednesday, the team confirmed:
“Calvin Bassey has withdrawn from the Nigeria national football team squad for the upcoming friendlies against Iran and Jordan due to a back injury.”
Chelle Opts Against Replacement Call-Up
Head coach Éric Chelle is preparing his side for the two fixtures against the Iran national football team on March 27 and the Jordan national football team on March 31 without drafting in a replacement for Bassey.
The decision leaves the squad with 21 players in camp in Antalya, following the arrival of captain Wilfred Ndidi, who completed the roster earlier on Wednesday.
