Goals For Girls (G4G) hosted its Leadership Summit at the Union Bank Sports Complex in Lagos to transformed and empowered Future global leaders.

​The Union Bank Sports Complex in Lagos recently transformed into a vibrant hub of empowerment and athletic excellence as Goals For Girls (G4G) successfully hosted its inaugural Leadership Summit. This landmark event marked a significant milestone for the international NGO, which has spent the past year deeply rooted in Lagos State’s public secondary school system, utilizing the universal language of football to cultivate the leaders of tomorrow.  

​For the past twelve months, the G4G Project has worked tirelessly across Lagos, bridging the gap between sports and social development. By integrating leadership workshops with physical training, the initiative provides young girls with a holistic toolkit for success. The summit served as the grand culmination of this year-long journey, bringing the lessons of the classroom and the pitch into one high-energy environment.

​Damilola Ogunbote, the Executive Director of Goals For Girls, shared her profound pride in the event’s turnout and the palpable growth of the attendees. Reflecting on the program, Ogunbote highlighted that the participants didn’t just show up, they arrived with a level of dedication and discipline that exceeded all expectations. She noted that the coordinators played a pivotal role, ensuring that the NGO’s mission was translated into meaningful action for every student present.

​Addressing the unique hurdles faced by young women in Nigeria, Ogunbote emphasized that while the NGO originated in the United States, its heart is firmly set on global impact. She was candid about the obstacles these girls face but remained resolute about the solution. According to Ogunbote, the goal is not merely to provide temporary monetary relief, but to equip these girls with “the tools needed to achieve their dreams.” This philosophy focuses on sustainable empowerment—teaching resilience, critical thinking, and self-advocacy.

​The ambition for G4G does not stop at the borders of Lagos. The organization is currently laying the groundwork for a nationwide expansion. To achieve this, the NGO is actively seeking strategic partnerships with corporate organizations and government bodies at all levels. The vision is clear: to replicate this successful model in every corner of Nigeria, ensuring that no girl is left without the mentorship she deserves.

​The summit’s first day welcomed 150 eager students from five Junior Secondary Schools in the Surulere axis. Under the watchful and supportive eyes of parents, guardians, and teachers, the girls engaged in a diverse array of activities. The schedule was meticulously crafted to reinforce the core values of the G4G curriculum.

Focused sessions designed to help girls find their voices and take initiative in their communities, Creative outlets that fostered a sense of sisterhood and collective joy and round-robin football tournament where the spirit of competition met the grace of sportsmanship. 

​Chinasa Mandy Ukandu, the Country Manager, echoed the sentiments of success, praising the girls for their patience and focus. She delivered a stirring charge to the participants, urging them to steer clear of societal vices and remain steadfast in their pursuit of excellence. The impact was felt instantly; several students noted that the summit acted as a “moral boost,” reaffirming their belief that their dreams are valid and attainable.

​The energy at the Union Bank Sports Complex is far from over. The summit will continue on Wednesday with a fresh cohort of 150 students from five additional schools. As Goals For Girls concludes this inaugural event, they leave behind more than just a trophy for the winning team, they leave a legacy of empowered young women ready to kick-start their futures with confidence.
