There is growing noise around the possibility of Tosin Adarabioyo, the Chelsea defender, being recruited into the Super Eagles, but as a lifelong fan, I want to be clear: I reject that move entirely.
No Real Interest in Nigeria—Not Good Enough for Me
Adarabioyo has had years to make a concrete commitment to Nigeria, yet he’s shown no serious intention. He remains eligible, yes, but eligibility alone doesn’t earn you a spot, especially not on a team that demands loyalty, hunger, and a genuine will to wear the green jersey.
To me (and many others), that history signals he values England or something else more than Nigeria. That mindset cannot be accepted.
His Chelsea Performances? A Horror Show
Let’s also be blunt: watching Adarabioyo at Chelsea this season has been painful. His displays have been abysmal, dreadful, and an eyesore. Mistakes, lack of concentration, sloppy defending it’s been one error after another. For a defender’s role, that’s unforgivable. I’ve seen less shaky center-backing from even the worst players in lesser leagues.
If someone like Harry Maguire, who is often criticized and ridiculed, has sometimes been as bad as Adarabioyo, that should tell you everything. Why would I want him at the heart of my national team’s back line?
Super Eagles Are Not a Fallback Option
The way some diaspora or dual-eligible players view the Super Eagles seems transactional as a fallback, a backup plan when things don’t go well in Europe. That’s unacceptable. The Nigeria shirt shouldn’t be treated as a “Plan B.”
Our national team needs defenders who are committed from the heart, who bleed green when they step on the pitch, not players shopping for minutes or reputation.
As a fan, I say: NO.
So I stand firm. Even if Adarabioyo switches passports tomorrow, I won’t accept him. He has never shown the hunger, the loyalty, or the quality. I don’t care about eligibility forms; I care about pride, performance, and representation.
I love Nigeria. I love the Super Eagles. And I will not let someone who once treated the dream as a backup and whose club performances have been embarrassing tarnish what the badge means to me and millions of other fans.
