Kun Khalifat FC head coach Obinna Uzoho is refusing to press the panic button despite his side’s difficult start to the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League season.
The Owerri-based club are still waiting for their first victory after three matches, having collected two points from a possible nine.
Kun Khalifat opened the campaign with a goalless draw against Abia Warriors before another 0-0 draw against Barau FC. Their unbeaten start came to an end on Sunday when they suffered a 4-2 defeat to Bendel Insurance in Benin City.
Despite the heavy defeat, Uzoho believes there is no reason for his players to panic this early in the campaign.
“I’m going back home to make sure we put everything right. You know, this season has just started,” Uzoho said, according to the NPFL.
The coach also admitted that he is aiming to improve on a difficult personal campaign last season.
“I want to do more this season because last season was tough for me,” he added.
Kun Khalifat’s defeat to Bendel Insurance exposed some defensive weaknesses after the team had kept clean sheets in their opening two matches. However, scoring twice in Benin also offered a positive sign for a side that had failed to find the net in its first two league games.
The result leaves Kun Khalifat 14th on the NPFL table with two points from three games. Their next opportunity to claim a first win will come at home against Rangers in an Oriental derby at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri on Sunday.
For Uzoho, the priority now is to use the lessons from the Bendel Insurance defeat rather than allow the result to derail the team’s season.
With a long league campaign still ahead, Kun Khalifat will hope the response against Rangers can mark the beginning of a turnaround.
