Super Falcons defender Rofiat Imuran has completed a move to Aston Villa Women from London City Lionesses ahead of the 2026/27 Women’s Super League season.
The 22-year-old left-back becomes Aston Villa’s ninth signing of the summer transfer window under head coach Natalia Arroyo. The transfer is subject to visa approval.
Born in Ibadan on June 17, 2004, Imuran has developed into one of Nigeria’s promising attacking full-backs, gaining valuable experience in both France and England.
She began her professional career in the Nigerian Women’s Football League before moving to French club Stade de Reims in 2022. During her two seasons in France’s top flight, she made 27 league appearances and scored seven goals.
In October 2024, Imuran joined London City Lionesses on a three-year contract. She played an important role in the club’s promotion to the Women’s Super League after they won the Women’s Championship title and subsequently featured regularly in the top flight.
Her performances at club level have also been complemented by international experience. Imuran made her senior Nigeria debut in 2022 and was part of the Super Falcons squads at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. She previously represented Nigeria’s Falconets at the 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
Speaking after completing her move, Imuran expressed her excitement about joining the Birmingham club.
“I’m very excited to be here, and I want to achieve a lot of things. It’s a big club with a lot of history, and it has big ambitions, and I want to be part of it.”
Aston Villa Director of Women’s Football Marisa Ewers also welcomed the Nigerian defender, highlighting her pace, energy and international experience.
“Rofiat is an exciting young defender who already has good experience in English football and at the international level. She brings pace, energy and quality to our defensive options, and we believe her attributes are a really good fit for how Natalia wants the team to play.”
Imuran’s arrival further strengthens Aston Villa’s defensive options as the club prepares for another WSL campaign. Her experience in England, France and with the Super Falcons could prove valuable as she competes for a regular starting role.
The transfer also represents another important step in the growing pathway for Nigerian players into the Women’s Super League.
After helping London City Lionesses reach the top flight, Imuran now has the opportunity to continue her development at Aston Villa and establish herself at one of England’s most historic clubs.
