Former Super Eagles winger Victor Moses rolled back the years with a superb performance on Wednesday, scoring a goal and providing an assist as FC Kaysar Kyzylorda defeated FK Zhenys 3-1 in the first leg of the Kazakhstan Cup semi-finals.
The 35-year-old Nigerian was at the heart of Kaysar’s victory at Kaysar Arena, producing two decisive first-half contributions to put his side in a commanding position ahead of the return leg.
Moses Stars in Entertaining Victory
Kaysar made a dream start to the contest, taking the lead in just the fourth minute through Nurali Zhaksylyk after Moses won possession on the left flank and delivered a perfectly timed assist.
The visitors responded almost immediately, with Andrija Filipović equalising in the eighth minute to restore parity.
However, Moses ensured Kaysar regained control before the break. After a VAR review awarded the hosts a penalty for handball, the experienced Nigerian calmly converted from the spot in the 45th minute to make it 2-1.
Kaysar extended their advantage just moments after the restart, with Zhaksylyk completing his brace in the 46th minute to wrap up a convincing 3-1 victory.
Having delivered a goal and an assist, Moses was substituted in the 76th minute after another influential display.
The result gives Kaysar a healthy two-goal advantage heading into the second leg, which will be played on August 19 in Astana.
A Career Defined by Success
Born in Kaduna, Nigeria, on December 12, 1990, Moses has enjoyed one of the most accomplished careers of any Nigerian footballer of his generation.
After beginning his professional journey with Crystal Palace before moving to Wigan Athletic, he joined Chelsea in 2012 and went on to enjoy tremendous success at Stamford Bridge.
His finest club achievement came during the 2016/17 Premier League season under Antonio Conte, when he reinvented himself as a wing-back and played a key role in Chelsea’s title-winning campaign.
The versatile attacker also featured for Liverpool, Stoke City, West Ham United, Fenerbahçe, Inter Milan, Spartak Moscow, and Luton Town before joining Kaysar as a free agent in January 2026.
Super Eagles Legacy
On the international stage, Moses earned 38 caps for Nigeria, scoring 12 goals during an impressive Super Eagles career.
He was instrumental in Nigeria’s victorious 2013 Africa Cup of Nations campaign and also represented the country at the 2014 and 2018 FIFA World Cups before retiring from international football.
