Premier League side Fulham are closing in on the signing of Nigerian defender Chibuike Nwaiwu, with reports indicating the Super Eagles centre-back has already reached a preliminary personal agreement with the London club.
The 22-year-old is currently under contract with Turkish Süper Lig side Trabzonspor, but negotiations between the two clubs are believed to be in their final stages as Fulham push to complete the deal before the close of the summer transfer window.
While personal terms have reportedly been agreed, discussions over the transfer fee continue. Trabzonspor are said to value the towering defender at around €30 million, having already rejected earlier offers believed to be worth between €20 million and €28 million, including performance-related add-ons.

Should the transfer be completed, Nwaiwu would join fellow Nigerian internationals Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey at Craven Cottage, strengthening the growing Nigerian presence in Marco Silva’s squad.
Nwaiwu’s rise has been one of the most impressive stories in Nigerian football over the past two years. The 1.93-metre centre-back played a key role in helping Enyimba FC win the 2023 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title before making the move to Europe.
His development continued in Austria with Wolfsberger AC, where he contributed to the club’s domestic cup success, earning widespread praise for his commanding defensive displays.
A move to Trabzonspor followed in January 2026, and the Nigerian wasted little time establishing himself in Turkish football. During his debut spell with the club, he scored three goals in 21 appearances, combining defensive solidity with a significant threat from set pieces as Trabzonspor mounted a strong title challenge.
Fulham are understood to have offered the defender a contract running until 2030, highlighting the club’s long-term belief in his potential.
The London club views Nwaiwu as an ideal addition to its defence, particularly with uncertainty surrounding the future of Issa Diop. His combination of physical strength, aerial dominance, composure on the ball, and age makes him an attractive investment for both the present and the future.
For Nwaiwu, a move to the Premier League would represent another major milestone in a career that has progressed rapidly from the NPFL to Europe’s top leagues in just a few seasons.
With both clubs reportedly keen to reach an agreement, talks are expected to continue over the coming days as Fulham look to bridge the remaining gap in valuation.
If the transfer is finalised, Chibuike Nwaiwu would become the latest Nigerian defender to earn a move to England’s top flight, further strengthening the Super Eagles’ growing contingent in the Premier League.
Nigerian football fans will be eagerly awaiting the outcome of negotiations as Chibuike Nwaiwu edges closer to what could be the biggest move of his career.
