Nigeria’s medal hopes at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games have received another boost after Edidiong Okon Udo delivered a confident performance to book his place in the men’s 400m semi-finals.
The Nigerian quarter-miler produced a commanding display at Scotstoun Stadium on Tuesday, winning his opening-round heat in 45.73 seconds to announce himself as one of the athletes to watch in the competition.
Udo finished comfortably ahead of Barbados’ Desean Boyce, who clocked 46.55 seconds, while Grenada’s Michael Francois crossed the line in 46.62 seconds.
From the early stages of the race, the Nigerian looked in control, he maintained his rhythm through the opening 200 metres before producing a strong finish around the final bend to pull clear of his rivals and secure a convincing heat victory.
