Nigerian striker leaves Sevilla to become a key figure in Venezia’s ambitious new project
Nigerian striker Akor Adams has officially completed a move to newly promoted Serie A side Venezia FC, becoming one of the club’s headline signings ahead of the 2026/27 Italian top-flight season.
The 26-year-old Super Eagles forward joins Venezia in a deal reportedly worth €16 million plus performance-related bonuses, bringing an end to his brief but impactful spell with Sevilla.
Speaking after the transfer was confirmed, Adams explained that Venezia’s long-term vision was the decisive factor behind his decision.
“I chose to come here because I see the extraordinary project Venezia is building, and I want to contribute to writing a new chapter in its history,” the Nigerian striker said.
Adams departs Spain after just 18 months with Sevilla, where he enjoyed a strong 2025/26 campaign despite the club’s struggles. The powerful centre-forward scored 10 goals and provided three assists in 32 appearances, playing an important role in helping Sevilla avoid relegation from La Liga.
His rise has been one of the most remarkable journeys among Nigerian forwards in recent years.
Born in Nigeria, Adams began his professional career in Norway with Sogndal before earning a move to Lillestrøm, where his performances attracted attention from clubs across Europe. He later joined Montpellier in Ligue 1, continuing his development and eventually securing a transfer to Sevilla in January 2025 for a reported €5 million.
Standing at 1.90 metres, Adams is expected to become the focal point of Venezia’s attack, offering aerial dominance, physicality, and a proven goal-scoring threat as the club prepares for the demands of Serie A.
Venezia secured promotion after winning Serie B and have been among the most active newly promoted clubs in the transfer market. Sporting director Filippo Antonelli and the club’s ownership group are determined to build a squad capable of avoiding an immediate return to the second division.
The signing of Adams is widely viewed as a major statement of intent, with the Nigerian international expected to play a central role in the club’s survival ambitions.
At the international level, Adams has also continued to enhance his reputation with the Super Eagles, earning senior caps and making an immediate impression by scoring on his debut for Nigeria.
For Nigerian football fans, the move represents another encouraging development, with one of the country’s in-form strikers set to compete regularly in one of Europe’s elite leagues.
As Venezia prepare to return to the Serie A spotlight, all eyes will be on Akor Adams to see whether he can translate his recent form into consistent performances against Italy’s top clubs.
Akor Adams’ move to Venezia closes an impressive chapter in Spain and opens an exciting new adventure in Italy, where the Super Eagles striker is set to become a key figure in one of Serie A’s most ambitious newly promoted teams.
