Eric Chelle Steps Up Pursuit of Arsenal Wonderkid Ethan Nwaneri for Super Eagles

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle is reportedly intensifying efforts to convince highly rated Arsenal youngster Ethan Nwaneri to represent Nigeria at the senior international level, with the teenage playmaker identified as the ideal long-term solution for the team’s coveted number 10 role.

According to reports, Chelle considers the 19-year-old one of the brightest creative talents available to Nigeria and is determined to persuade him to commit his international future to the Super Eagles.

Chelle Targets Creative Spark

The Nigerian coach is believed to have initiated contact with Nwaneri’s representatives as part of an ambitious recruitment drive aimed at strengthening the national team’s midfield ahead of future international competitions.

Sources suggest Chelle sees the Arsenal prospect as the perfect player to add creativity, vision, and attacking intelligence to the Super Eagles, qualities Nigeria has sought consistently in recent years.

Although a planned meeting during the Unity Cup reportedly failed to materialise after Nwaneri received a call-up to an England training camp, Chelle remains optimistic that discussions can continue.

International Future Still Open

Born in London to a Nigerian father and an English-French mother, Nwaneri remains eligible to represent Nigeria at a senior level despite featuring for England across several youth age groups.

The talented attacking midfielder has previously spoken proudly about his Nigerian heritage, fuelling hopes among supporters that he could eventually choose the Super Eagles over the Three Lions.

His eligibility has made him one of the Nigeria Football Federation’s most closely monitored dual-nationality prospects.

Super Eagles Stars Could Play Key Role

Reports indicate Chelle plans to enlist several senior Super Eagles players to help convince Nwaneri to make the switch.

Experienced internationals including Ademola Lookman, Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey, and Ola Aina are expected to play influential roles by sharing their experiences of representing Nigeria and welcoming the youngster into the squad should he decide to commit.

The strategy mirrors previous recruitment efforts by the federation, which has successfully persuaded several dual-eligible players to choose Nigeria in recent years.

Perfect Fit for Nigeria?

Widely regarded as one of England’s brightest young attacking talents, Nwaneri has earned praise for his technical quality, composure, creativity, and eye for goal.

His ability to operate between the lines, create chances, and unlock opposition defences has made him an exciting prospect for both club and country.

Should Nigeria eventually secure his commitment, the Arsenal youngster could become a central figure in Chelle’s plans for the future and potentially provide the creative spark the Super Eagles have been searching for.

A Decision That Could Shape the Future

With preparations already underway for upcoming international competitions, including future World Cup qualification campaigns, convincing Nwaneri to represent Nigeria would be viewed as a major success for the Super Eagles.

However, no final decision has been made, and the teenager continues to have options regarding his international future.

As discussions continue behind the scenes, Nigerian football fans will be watching closely in the hope that one of Europe’s most exciting young talents ultimately chooses to wear the green and white of the Super Eagles.
