Excitement continues to build ahead of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games as Glasgow Airport officially joined the growing family of partners supporting the prestigious multi-sport event, becoming an Official Supporter of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games and an Official Supporter of Team Scotland.
To celebrate the landmark partnership, the Games’ vibrant mascot, Finnie, paid a memorable visit to one of Scotland’s busiest and most important transport hubs, creating a magical atmosphere at the airport ahead of what promises to be one of the biggest sporting spectacles in the United Kingdom this year.
With Glasgow preparing to welcome thousands of athletes, officials, dignitaries and fans from across the Commonwealth between 23 July and 2 August, Glasgow Airport is expected to play a pivotal role in the success of the Games. The airport will serve as a major gateway for the 74 nations and territories set to compete across 10 sports and six Para sports at four iconic venues across the city.
As part of the newly-announced partnership, travelling athletes, team officials and supporters will begin experiencing the spirit of Glasgow 2026 immediately upon arrival. The airport will be transformed with Games branding, fan engagement activities, special photo opportunities and the unmistakable energy and magic of Finnie spread throughout the terminals.
The celebration reached another unforgettable moment when Finnie became the first unicorn in the airport’s 80-year history to step onto the runway, delivering a symbolic and entertaining welcome ahead of the summer Games.
Speaking during the celebration, Finnie, popularly described as the Games hype master,” shared her excitement about the historic occasion.
“Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s a unicorn!
“I had so much fun checking-in and celebrating this partnership. Glasgow Airport is a gateway to the city and it was magical galloping down the very runway that thousands of athletes will arrive on this summer. They’re going to be so excited when they arrive!”
The partnership further strengthens Glasgow’s preparations to host a world class Games while reinforcing Scotland’s reputation for hospitality, organisation and sporting excellence.
Reacting to the announcement, Managing Director of Glasgow Airport, Gavin Birch-Williams, emphasized the airport’s commitment to ensuring a memorable experience for every visitor arriving for the Games.
