Sevilla Striker Vows to Improve After Near-Goal in Super Eagles’ 2-1 Victory Over Tanzania
Sevilla striker Akor Adams has pledged to build on his promising debut performance for Nigeria in their 2-1 win over Tanzania in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Group C opener on Tuesday night in Fez, Morocco.
The 25-year-old forward, who partnered with Victor Osimhen in attack, came close to scoring in the first half when his header struck the crossbar.
Adams, reflecting on his debut, expressed confidence in his physical form and noted that while the goals haven’t come yet, he’s focused on contributing to the team’s success.
“I feel good, my confidence mostly comes from my physical shape, and I feel very good on the pitch,” said Adams.
“The goal will come, the assist will come. For now, we focus on taking the points. It’s the group stage, and we must secure as many points as possible to progress.”
Adams was pleased with the team’s win, highlighting the importance of securing victory in tournament play, rather than focusing solely on style of play. He also emphasized that missing out on the 2026 World Cup will not affect Nigeria’s ambitions for AFCON.
“We came here to win, and everybody is focused on that goal,” he said.
“Yes, it’s sad to miss out on the World Cup, but our focus is on going as far as possible in AFCON. We are working towards that.”
With the victory, Nigeria sits second in Group C and will face Tunisia in their next match, aiming to further solidify their place in the knockout stages.
