Team Nigeria’s para powerlifting contingent has departed for Cairo, Egypt, ahead of the 11th World Para Powerlifting Championships, taking place from October 9 to 18, 2025.

This edition marks a significant milestone as the first-ever World Championships to be hosted on African soil — a landmark moment for the sport across the continent.

The first batch of athletes left Nigeria on Tuesday, October 7, to a warm send-off from officials, fans, and well-wishers. The second batch is scheduled to depart from Lagos on Wednesday, October 8, completing the full roster of athletes representing the nation at this historic event.

Officials have expressed confidence in the team’s preparedness and spirit, highlighting Nigeria’s longstanding dominance in the sport on the international stage. The National Sports Commission (NSC) reiterated its full backing for the team, underlining the government’s commitment to fostering inclusivity and driving sporting excellence.
