The National Sports Commission (NSC) has confirmed Lagos State as the host city for the maiden edition of the National Intermediate Games, scheduled to take place in 2026.

The competition, a key component of the NSC’s RHINSE initiatives, is designed to identify, nurture, and track sporting talent within the critical age bracket of 16 to 19 years. It aims to bridge the developmental gap between grassroots competitions and elite-level participation.

Chairman of the NSC, Mallam Shehu Dikko, emphasized the importance of establishing a structured grassroots system to sustain Nigeria’s success on the international stage.

“As a country, we must develop a proper grassroots model that creates a clear pathway to elite performance. Our determination for sustainable podium success begins with the right foundation, and the Intermediate Games will be a crucial part of achieving this,” Dikko stated.
