Nigeria’s Super Eagles secured a vital 2-0 win against Rwanda in Kigali, with Victor Osimhen’s first-half brace proving decisive in Eric Chelle’s first game as head coach. The victory provides much-needed momentum as Nigeria continues its campaign.
The scoring opened in the 11th minute when Osimhen expertly finished from a well-delivered free kick by Ademola Lookman. The Super Eagles nearly doubled their lead in the 24th minute, but Moses Simon’s curling effort was denied by Rwanda’s goalkeeper.
Deep into first-half stoppage time (45+3), Osimhen struck again, giving Nigeria a comfortable 2-0 lead at the break. The second half saw a series of substitutions, with Raphael Onyedika and Bruno Onyemaechi coming on in the 67th minute, followed by Alhassan Yusuf and Tolu Arokodare in the 77th.
Despite no further goals in the second half, the Super Eagles managed the game well to secure the win. Nigeria now sits fourth in the standings with six points, four behind table-toppers South Africa. Up next, they will host Zimbabwe on March 25, aiming to close the gap in the race for qualification.
